Highlight victory from Donnie:

Cebu, Philippines. Filipino WBO champion is now eager to making history not only for the Philippines but for the whole world agains Mexican challenger Carlos "Chapito" Velarde is confident that he can make his own history against undisputed World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion "Ahas" Nietes of the Philippines in their coming title-fight in the Pinoy Pride 28 this Saturday night at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Cebu City. This gonna be exciting fight for this year of Pinoy Pride.

Pinoy Pride 28 is supported by ALA Boxing Gym, Waterfront Cebu City and Casino, Ayala Center Cebu, Islands Souvenirs, Islands Pasalubong, 3 Coins Advertising, St. Mark hotel, Rajah Park Hotel, Gaisano Mall, Isuzu Cebu, Robinson's Fuente, Natural 106.7, city government of Cebu, Fungisol, Insular Square, Cebu Daily News and The Freeman.

Donnie Nietes sounded a confident man on the verge of making history when he defends his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior flyweight title for the final time Saturday night against Mexican challenger Carlos Velarde at the Waterfront Hotel.

All the Filipino world champion did was give the Mexican a dagger look during their faceoff at the weigh-in of Pinoy Pride XXVIII to remind the challenger what he’s up against.

Nietes has beaten nine of Velarde’s countrymen in the ring, three of them right at their home turf, and owns a 25-win streak that includes four title defenses each in a seven-year reign in the strawweight and junior flyweight divisions.

Nietes expectedly made the weight limit at 107 1/2 lbs during Friday’s Pinoy Pride 28 weigh-in at Robinson’s Fuente, the second-to-last obstacle in his quest to break Gabriel “Flash” Elorde’s record of being the longest Filipino champion of all-time.

The 32-year-old boxer, a product of ALA Boxing since 2001, sees no reason that he will prevail in his fifth defense of the belt before his impending move to the 112-lb division in 2015.

Donnie 'Ahas' Nietes (33-1-4, 19KO), cool as a cucumber, will have another day in the office against a highly motivated Mexican challenger in Carlos 'Chapito' Velarde, not showing any signs of pressure where he is about to break Elorde's long standing record as the longest reigning Filipino world champion. Nietes, 32, world champion since April 21, 2007, will have all the respect and adulation he fully deserves when he climbs the ring tonight.

Milan 'El Metodico' Melindo (31-1-0, 12KO) failed to win a world title in his try against against Mexican elite Juan Francisco Estrada last year in Macau but vows to pursue another one quickly. He will face Mexican speedster Saul 'Baby' Juarez (20-3-0, 11KO) for the IBF junior flyweight eliminator.

Merlito 'Tiger' Sabillo (23-1-1, 12KO) who won the WBO minimumweight world title over Luis de la Rosa in Columbia in March last year and lost it to Mexico's Francisco Rodriguez in March this year, will try to position himself back to regain the title he lost to Rodriguez by facing Faris Nenggo (8-6-3, 2KO) in a 8 round minimumweight contest.

AJ 'Bazooka' Banal (31-2-1, 22KO) who failed to win a world title in two tries, will try to remain relevant and stoke the fires of his legion of followers when he faces Maxsaisai Sithsaithong (15-5-3, 4KO) of Thailand in a 8 round non-title super bantamweight bout.

Nietes, Melindo, Sabillo and Banal previously headlined the Pinoy Pride series individually.

'Prince' Albert Pagara (21-0-0, 15KO) , the crowd-pleasing younger brother of Jason Pagara, will try to build momentum to his undefeated record when he trade leathers with Mexico's Raul Hirales (22-3-0, 11KO) as he defends his IBF Inter-Continental super bantamweight title and stay on course for a possible world title shot.

Multi-titled amateur Mark 'Magnifico' Magsayo (8-0-0, 6KO) who, with his speed, skills and power, has the potential to take the Philippines by storm, will face Korean trial-horse Moon-Sun Jung (2-3-3) in a 6-round featherweight contest.

The undefeated Albert "Prince" Pagara (21 wins, 15 KOs, 0 L, 0 D) will be defending his IBF Inter-continental jr. featherweight title against Raul Hirales (22 wins, 11 KOs, 3 loses, 1 draw) of Mexico (12 rds.-122 lbs.) while Current WBO Inter-continental flyweight champion Milan "El Metodico" Melindo (31 wins, 12 KOs, 1 loss) takes on Saul "Baby" Juarez (20 wins, 11 KOs, 3 loses) of Mexico in an IBF jr. flyweight eliminator (12 rds.-108 lbs).
Former WBO world minimumweight champion Merlito "Tiger" Sabillo (23 wins, 12 KOs, 1 loss, 1 draw) faces Faris Nenggco (8 wins, 2 KOs, 6 loses, 3 draws) of Indonesia (8 rds.-107 lbs.), AJ "Bazooka" Banal (31 wins, 22 KOs, 2 loses, 1 draw) takes on Maxsaisai Sithsaithong (15 wins, 4 KOs, 5 loses) of Thailand (8 rds.-124 lbs.).

Jomar "Wallopman" Fajardo (14 wins, 7 KOs, 5 loses, 1 draw) vs. Francisco "Chihuas" Rodriguez (16 wins, 11 KOs, 2 loses) of Mexico (10 rds.-110 lbs.), Mark "Manifico" Magsayo of Tagbilaran vs. Moon-Sun Jung of South Korea (6 rds.-126 lbs.), Polid Banal of Cebu vs. Ritchen Rosales of Bohol (4 rds.-115 lbs.), Virgel Vitor of Tagbilaran vs. Jovane Abejero of Bohol (4 rds.-118 lbs.), Gerard Suico of Mandaue vs. Fritz Cabilla of Bohol (4 rds.-112 lbs.).

At the moment no opponents have been selected for the 4 Filipino fighters though it's expected to be Nietes's final fight at Light Flyweight and will be a show used to celebrate the 7th anniversary of his career defining victory over Thailand's Pornsawan Porpramook, a win that first saw Nietes becoming a world champion.
